The Visor editor: a recording with a camera bubble, a cut on the timeline, the speed set to 1.25× and export options.

Everything you need for a quick walkthrough

Record anything

The whole screen, one window, every window of an app, or an area you drag out.

You, in a bubble

Add your camera as a circle or rounded square, drag it anywhere, resize it, mirror it.

Voice and system sound

Record your microphone and your Mac's audio, from every app or just one.

Pause, then carry on

Pause and resume as often as you like. It all ends up in one recording.

Trim, cut, speed up

Cut the stumbles, trim the ends and play it back at 0.5× to 2×, with speech that still sounds like you.

Export your way

MP4, WebM or GIF, at 1080p, 720p or full size, ready to drop into a chat or an email.

Stays out of the shot

Visor's own controls and camera bubble never show up in what you record.

Nothing leaves your Mac

Recordings are plain folders on your disk. No account, no cloud, no tracking.

From idea to shareable video in a minute

  1. Pick what to record from the menu bar: a screen, a window, an app or an area, plus your camera and mic.
  2. Hit record. A short countdown, then a small control bar to pause, stop or start over.
  3. Trim and export. The editor opens right away. Cut, speed up, export, and paste the file wherever it needs to go.
The Visor recorder panel: choose Screen, Window, App or Area, a camera, a microphone and system audio.

Free, open source, and kept that way by people like you

Visor has no ads, no paid tier and no data to sell. If it saves you time, a small donation helps keep it maintained and brings it to Windows and Linux sooner.

Questions

What permissions does Visor need?

Screen Recording, which macOS asks for the first time you record (you may need to reopen Visor after allowing it), and the camera and microphone when you choose them. Visor is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any app you download.

Where do my recordings go?

To ~/Movies/Visor, one folder per recording, which you can change in Preferences. Edits never touch the original tracks, so you can always go back and export again.

Does Visor connect to the internet?

Only to check for updates, and only if you say yes when it asks. The check downloads a small list of versions from this site; it sends no account, no recordings and nothing about what you do. Every update is signed, and Visor refuses one that doesn't match its signature. You can also check by hand from the menu bar: Check for Updates…

Does it work on Windows, Linux or Intel Macs?

Not yet. Visor runs on Apple Silicon Macs today. Windows and Linux versions are being built and need testers; follow the project on GitHub.

Is it really free?

Yes. Visor is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence. There's no account, no trial and nothing to upgrade to. Donations are optional.
